SOME OF WORK

The DataJournaLIST - week6

WHAT'S NEW THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF JOURNALISM AND DATA? CHECK OUT THE WEEKLY LIST OF THE BEST ARTICLES AROUND THE WORLD!

HOT TOPIC OF THE WEEK

CHINA AND MYANMAR

1. FRONTIER MYANMAR

The first new entry of this week is Frontier Myanmar. I think this is one of the first data story for the team, but it come out a superlative data-led reporting. The exploration of Myanmar's economic relationship with China is a longform with different digital elements. Pictures, videos and dataviz. A map analyzes the production of energy in Myanmar and how much energy would stay in the country. It's possible to scroll and see the map follow the story. But there's a lot more to analyze chinese investments and how they are related to Myanmar export growth.

VOTES AT UN

2. AL JAZEERA

Second time in the list for Al Jazeera. The team analysed 6,112 roll-call votes from the UN General Assembly from 1946 to 2018. In the piece you can explore the biggest issues facing the planet and see how they have evolved. In an interactive and colorful form!

AMAZON RAINFOREST

3. REUTERS GRAPHICS

We already talked about the Amazon Rainforest in the LIST of the week 1. Reuters Graphics is going ahead, trying to go deeper in the analysis of Bolsonaro's politics. The President is preparing to pave a road deep to the forest. Many fear it would be an ecological disaster. Reuters analyzed deforested areas within a 20 km buffer on both sides of each of the three roads in each state.

RACIAL RIOTS

4. MALAYSIAKINI

I found this piece after a while, as you can see. But I really like the way they put togheter historical pictures and newspapers pages with maps and interactive visualization to explain what happened that day hour by hour. Malaysiakini is an award-winning independent news provider. And from now another new entry in the list!

HEALTH CRISIS

5. MÉDOR MAG

Médor is a quarterly Belgian magazine and cooperative investigative and narrative, founded in 2015. The last new entry of the week. But not the least for the use of data visualization. The United States is experiencing a serious health crisis. Painkillers with excessive prescription cause millions of addictions and thousands of deaths. Médor creates a wonderful analysis of Belgium in pain, to understand the consequences of more than a million Belgians who ate an opiate in 2017. Scroll, interact and enjoy!
